my nickname is neon.

I'm half Sri Lankan,
and half Indian.

My name is Nirshath Madhusanka Udakumbure Gedara and I'm Half Srilankan and Half Indian,

and I just completed my BA in Digital Media with First Class Honours.

I was born and brought up in Dubai, UAE and I've lived here pretty much my whole life with my Mom, Dad and my annoying older Sister. [if you're reading this i hate you so much >:( Jk ily]

I've always been interested in 'making cool things', and I taught myself how to use Photoshop back in 2018. Ever since then I've been posting 'edits' of myself on my instagram @neonsesky as a hobby. I also began editing videos on iMovie (iOS), but it was 2020 when i was introduced to Adobe Premiere Pro (Which is an industry standard software). I taught myself how to use premiere pro as well.

and that's how editing photos and videos became my Hobby.

Driving is
therapy for me.

I always wanted to have my driver's license and drive my own car, and now that I do, It feels so good driving down the highway with music on (Don't ask me about my car cos I won't stop talking about it).

Speaking of music, I love listening to music and to be honest there isn't really a specific genre that I like. My taste stretches from synthwave, retrowave, to Lo-fi, Dar Disku, 1980's songs from all over the world, to bands like The Neighbourhood, Trevor Something, MGMT, and I recently started listening to $uicideboy$. I guess you could say that the music i tend to listen to isn't exactly mainstream.

My friends say I've got a great taste in music though.

One thing i have to point out is, Music has been a part of everything ive done in terms of media, whether its something the background that I'd be listening to while working, or if it directly affects the outcome of editing.

My favourite subjects in Highschool were Mass Media and Psychology, and my plan was to go into Psychology for my undergraduate studies. But I realized that I wanted to do what I truly loved, and a BA in Digital Media appeared to be exactly that.

So far, choosing media has been the best decision I've taken. I get to do what im good at, while also enjoying every bit of it. What's the point of working a job you absolutuely hate doing, yknow?

BACHELORS OF ARTS
Digital Media and Communications

I enrolled at Middlesex University, Dubai and studied Digital Media and Communications as an undergraduate for 3 Years, receiving a First Class Honours

I made a lot of friends and connections, and acquired a whole lot of new skills while being able to display the skills I already had before joining.
Some of the things I've learned there include UI/UX Design, Project Management, Sound Design, AR and VR Technology, Research Methods, Social Design and Digital Culture.

All my work is dedicated to my mom.

I grew up next to the beach.

There's something about beaches that makes you feel so calm. It's probably a combination of sand, sea breeze and water. I grew up right next to Jumeirah Beach, the water was a 5-minute walk from my house.

I miss those days and though I still live a 10 minute drive away from the beach, I'd love to be able to live closer.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
is my most favourite childhood videogame.

Oh man, I gotta tell you, I'm a huge fan of GTA Vice City! I used to play it all the time my PSP (remember those bad boys?). But it isn't just the game, I'm also obsessed with Miami Vice, that 80s TV show, and Scarface with Al Capone.

There's just something about art deco vibes of 80s Miami that I can't get enough of. The music, the tech, everything was so cool! And this, I wasn even born during that time, but I still feel nostalgic for it. I've been heavily influenced by all this and it's played a major role in the 'rise of neonsesky'.
